The Gateway Tablet PC Review

It's hard to beat a tablet PC for portable functionality. Yet sometimes you want the functionality of a tablet PC, without having to wait until you return to the office to obtain the results from the work you've just done. Enter the Gateway Tablet PC.

The Gateway version of the tablet PC combines all the best of a normal, fully functioning laptop computer with the versatility of a tablet PC, allowing you to work from a machine that combines the best of both types of technology.

Unlike many other types of tablet PCs or even laptop tablet combos, the Gateway Tablet PC has a CD/DVDR drive which allows you to read and write both CDs and DVDs from your computer. It also has a fourteen inch display which can be used either traditionally as your laptop screen or when swiveled around to cover the full size keyboard, as a touch screen tablet PC, offering more usable work space to write and draw on than many of its competitors.

The Gateway combo also features a large amount of RAM and an Intel processor, allowing you to maintain the same amount of processing speed as a regular computer without the additional hardware that will cause the portability of the device to be somewhat limited. Featuring either a three or six cell battery, it allows you to choose the maximum amount of battery life time between charges, giving you a choice between a maximum of two hours or six for your new Gateway Tablet PC.

The only place where the Gateway version of the tablet PC seems to lack is in its internal memory storage option. Coming set up with a hard drive which stores up to 40GB, the Gateway is a great option for someone who wants a tablet PC in addition to their normal everyday desktop or laptop, however the limited amount of memory will not allow you to hold all of your information or software on the tablet PC, making it a requirement to either save the majority of your work on an external memory source or to simply use this piece of equipment as an add-on to your already existing computing system. Though the memory that comes standard in the convertible laptop can be upgraded, it can only go so far, and not nearly to the extent of an everyday laptop. The Gateway can be used in addition to your normal computer, giving you a more versatile, travel friendly option, however it should not be expected to take the place of your normal computer as its small amount of internal memory will not allow it to have all of the function of your regular laptop.

The Gateway Tablet PC is a great addition to your normal PC, allowing you to run Windows XP on it with limited functionality as a traditional laptop, but giving you all of the versatility of a tablet PC and allowing you to take your work along with you no matter where your road takes you.
